Let me tell you a story. A story about three girls - three very different girls, who went on a road trip. One was a bubbly, bright-eyed, cheerful girl who lived and loved the sun and summer days. The second was an artist, full of color and creativity. The last one was a mystery, deep, dark and brooding. Well, before they were about to hit the road, they decided they needed a way to express their individuality. And what better way to do this, they thought, than by wearing lipstick? Off they went, and each got a shade that was made for them. Here at Brown Girl Makeup Musings, we managed to get an agent to investigate, and I've just got hold of what the girls wore. Notice how the packaging is that of a standard MAC lipstick? That's because these are part of the permanent MAC lipstick line. The names are printed on the bottom, which is great if you store them upside down. More on the shades though. That is the topic of interest, non? Tropic Tonic is a bright matte orange-y coral that leans almost neon. Men Love Mystery is a matte light purple (almost lavender) with pink undertones. Instigator is a matte deep, blackened purple with berry pink undertones. Reports state that these are smooth, almost creamy, and glide onto your lips. They are almost completely opaque in one swipe, but they can be built up to full opacity with 2-3 swipes. They've also been reported to start off as demi-matte finishes, but our agent reported that the girls were seen with truely matte lips after some time. She also reported that the girls seemed to find that wearing these lipsticks was comfortable. The brooding, mysterious girl was heard complaining that hers was a little streaky on initial application, but was soon placated when subsequent lipstick swipes seemed to even out the color. She also noted that the color seemed to stay around for about 4 hours, faded evenly and left a stain behind, but that was when the the girls only snacked and sipped on water and/or caffeinated beverages. When the trio stopped at a Subway for lunch, though, she noticed them reapplying after their meal. Our agent was also able to take a picture of the three girls wearing their shades: Phew! I'm going to stop the silliness now and talk about these three. I love Instigator so much more than I expected - it's so reminiscent of NARS Train Bleu but I find this more flattering than Train Bleu. I love how unique Men Love Mystery is! It's purple without being too purple, and quite flattering. I'm hesitant to comment on Tropic Tonic because I feel like I'm not used to seeing my face with these kind of bright shades, and that could color my opinion of it. I find it's a bit too bright on me, and I'm still working out ways on how to wear it. It looks a little bit more subdued in the photos than it is in real life. The formula is great, though.
